Working with earthworms field day (Richmond)

June 21 @ 10:30 am - 1:30 pm

Could earthworms improve productivity on your farm?

A healthy population of earthworms can ‘turn over’ and fertilise tonnes of soil per hectare per week. Earthworms can improve soil structure and function and stimulate root and plant growth. They can reduce the costs of tillage and soil fertility management. Vermiculture products such as ‘vermi-casts’ and liquid extracts can also improve soil and plant health. Managing your soils to promote greater earthworm activity could improve productivity and farm sustainability.

Attend this field day to:
• Participate in a ‘dig’ for earthworms and learn how to assess whether earthworms are working for you
• Learn about different types of compost and earthworms and how they can improve farm productivity
• Find out about different types of earthworms and vermiculture products
• Discuss what practices can be used to promote earthworm activity and the benefits of and barriers to adopting these
