Postharvest Management of Vegetables Workshop, Sommerville

Good postharvest management keeps vegetables fresh and customers happy. Postharvest techniques prevent damage, limit water loss and maintain quality from farm to retail sale.
This 1⁄2 day, professional development workshop will help growers, packing shed managers, QA officers, and vegetable supply chain business representatives optimise their handling and storage of fresh vegetables, maximising quality and minimising losses. Participants will improve their understanding of:
- Cooling methods and strategies
- Food safety and sanitisers
- Managing the storage environment
- Quality assessment
- Supply chain evaluation
- New postharvest technologies
Case studies, demonstrations and activities will be used to explain the principles of postharvest management and discuss issues specific to vegetable businesses.
Participants will receive a free copy of the new ‘Postharvest management of vegetables – Australian supply chain handbook’.
A light lunch will also be provided, with a bonus lunch time talk on irrigation management.
