Landcare’s Sustainable Farms Workshops – Lifestyle Farms
April 30, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
* Learn how to make your farm more resilient, productive & competitive from experts in farm planning, soil nutrition, water, animals, trees, farm-gate sales & marketing & more
* On-Farm Tours—see what others are doing
A lifestyle farm is generally not oriented towards commercial farming, however it can provide most of the meat, fruit and vegetables consumed by a family, plus a bit to share. The focus of this workshop is on home food production. In addition, this lifestyler is self-sufficient in water, runs on solar and demonstrates sustainable building practices.
We are lucky to have Tino Carnevale, renowned expert from Gardening Australia, presenting during the course. He is well known for his work in teaching people how to grow veggies and fruits in The Vegie Patch in the Hobart Botanic Garden.
The host farm is located amongst the hills of Mirboo. The owners have taken a small 13 acre cattle grazing property and enhanced it with diverse fruit and nut orchards, raised veggie beds, bee hives, and a comfortable passive solar (strawbale) house.
